Ruth Porat was born on April 22, 1957, in Cheshire, England. She is Frieda and Dr. Dan Borat’s daughter. Her father worked as a research fellow in the physics department at Harvard University. Marc and Naomi Porat are her siblings. Her family relocated to Cambridge, Massachusetts, when she was a child. The family later moved to Palo Alto.
Porat attended Stanford University after graduating from high school, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in international relations and economics.
