Who is Sloane Howard?
The mother of Australian teenage rap sensation The Kid Laroi is accused of fraudulently using a credit card to pay for cosmetic services at a Sydney shopping centre.
Sloane Howard, whose son’s real name is Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard, has pleaded not guilty to one count of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception.
Police allege the 51-year-old used the credit card details of a John Keith to pay for cosmetic services worth $849 from Laser Clinics Australia at Marrickville Metro Shopping Center on August 8, 2018.
Charged
When she was charged, she was staying at the Four Seasons Hotel on George Street. Her court documents incorrectly refer to her as male.
After returning to Australia from Los Angeles to tour with her son last month, Howard turned herself in to a central Sydney police station, where she was arrested and charged. Kid Laroi appears performing at the Qudos Bank Arena on May 26.
Howard’s matter was brought up in Downing Center Local Court on Monday when high-profile attorney Chris Watson requested an adjournment so the rest of a police report could be served.
Watson said that Howard was abroad as part of an existing contractual arrangement and that he could not be certain of her exact whereabouts.
“That’s not his choice, it’s a contractual commitment,” Watson told the court.
Family
Howard first faced Downing Center Local Court on May 30 when he pleaded not guilty to the only count. She was excused from court on Monday.
Kid Laroi, now 18, has previously discussed the lengths his mother went to support him and her younger brother Austin after her 2007 split from her husband, music producer Nick Howard.

Before that, the Howard family lived in relative luxury.
She attended the Mosman Church of England preparatory school and Howard is remembered by mothers whose children attended as “a charming, very attractive, elegant woman” who would leave Charlton in a sports car.
After her parents separated, everything changed drastically.
Kid Laroi has spoken at length about growing up on the housing commission in Waterloo, mixing with troubled youth, and that the family was even evicted for misconduct.
After that, the family spent some time couch surfing and The Kid Laroi became heavily influenced by his uncle Doug, who was murdered in 2015.
Howard also previously worked as a talent manager for indigenous artists and it was his work that first brought her son recognition.
Since The Kid Laroi rose to global stardom in 2020, Howard and his son Austin have lived in Los Angeles with him.
