Who is Trevor Summers?
Trevor Summers, 45, previously questioned the woman he also allegedly s*xually assaulted and held captive, but ultimately refused to testify in a Hillsborough County, Florida, court on Friday.
The defendant fired a series of attorneys in this case dating back to 2017. Summers hired and fired a private attorney, was represented by the public defender’s office and decided to represent himself some time before trial. However, on Monday, before jury selection, Summers opted to have court-appointed attorney Anthony Marchese take up the case again, though Marchese acknowledged in court that they disagreed on strategy.
Summers then decided to represent himself again, allowing him to question his ex-wife, Alisa Mathewson, 42, when she was on the witness stand.
Mathewson testified at her trial that her then-husband tried to kill her by suffocating her with a pillow until he fell unconscious and then strangled her with a rope. She also testified that the defendant kidnapped her and s*xually assaulted her.
