Who is William Todd Wilson ?

The leader of the North Carolina chapter of the Oath Keepers militia has pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy and obstructing Electoral College certification in the Jan. 6 riots at the Capitol.

William Todd Wilson, 45, of Newton Grove, a US military veteran, has admitted bringing guns and bulletproof vests to Capitol Hill with the intent of stopping Joe Biden’s certification.

He also told the Justice Department that Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes, 56, had tried to contact former President Donald Trump during the riots to get permission to use force, CBS reported.

In his guilty plea, Wilson wrote: “At approximately 5:00 p.m. m., Wilson, Rhodes and others left the Capitol grounds and walked together to the Phoenix Hotel.

‘Rhodes then called an individual on a speaker phone. Wilson listened, Rhodes repeatedly implored the individual to tell President Trump to call in groups like the Oath Keepers to forcibly oppose the transfer of power.

“This individual denied Rhodes’ request to speak directly with President Trump,” the statement continued.

For his part in the riot, Wilson admitted to bringing an AR-15-style rifle, a 9-millimeter pistol, approximately 200 rounds of ammunition, bulletproof vests, a camouflaged combat uniform, pepper spray, a large cane intended to be used as a a gun and a knife to a Washington D.C. area hotel. before the attack.

Wilson claims that Rhodes told him and his fellow members of the North Carolina Oath Keepers to be prepared to “engage in force, up to and including deadly violence, to stop the transfer of power.”

He added that the group also had a weapons cache ready outside the Capitol to be ready for a quick reaction force (QRF) if needed.

At the Capitol, the Oathkeepers marched in two teams in stack formation, with team members advancing with a hand on the shoulder of the person in front of them.

Although the group never went through the QRF plan during the Capitol riots, Wilson states that Rhodes “continued to discuss the need to prepare for a broader struggle against the government similar to the American Revolutionary War.”

Wilson also admitted to throwing his phone into the Atlantic Ocean in the weeks after the riots to impede the investigation against him.

Along with Wilson, Oath Keepers members Joshua James, 34, of Arab, Alabama, and Brian Ulrich, 44, of Guyton, Georgia, also pleaded guilty to charges of seditious conspiracy and obstruction.

The seditious conspiracy prosecution is the boldest public attempt yet known by the government to prosecute those who attacked the US Capitol.

Both charges carry a 20-year prison sentence, but the men’s sentences are expected to be reduced for their cooperation with the Justice Department.

Rhodes and nine other members of the group have pleaded not guilty and are awaiting trial.

The other eight members are: Thomas Caldwell, 67, of Berryville, Virginia; Joseph Hackett, 51, of Sarasota, Fla.; Kenneth Harrelson, 41, of Titusville, Fla.; Kelly Meggs, 52, of Dunnellon, Fla.; Roberto Minuta, 37, of Prosper, Texas; David Moerschel, 44, of Punta Gorda, Fla.; and Jessica Watkins, 39, of Woodstock, Ohio.

According to filings in the Rhode case, he allegedly told Oath Keepers

According to filings in the Rhode case, he allegedly told Oath Keepers: ‘We will have several well-equipped QRFs outside of DC.

“And there are many, many others, from other groups, who will be watching and waiting outside in case worst-case scenarios play out.”

Along with the Oath Keepers, members of the Proud Boys Militia were at the Capitol riot, and the FBI is currently investigating a meeting that took place between Rhodes and Proud Boys President Enrique Tarrio the day before the attack.

They were filmed in a car park near the Phoenix Park Hotel with four other far-right figures by a British filmmaker shooting a documentary about the Proud Boys.

Tarrio, 38, left Washington shortly after the Jan. 5, 2021, meeting and said an impending attack on Capitol Hill was not discussed during their conversation, sources told Reuters.

Latinos for Trump leader Bianca Gracia also attended the meeting along with Oath Keepers attorney Kellye SoRelle, a video showed.

SoRelle told Reuters that Gracia invited her to the meeting to share information about criminal defense attorneys with Tarrio. She said they spoke briefly and did not discuss the then-imminent takeover of the Capitol.

Tarrio, who was released from jail last month after serving a five-month sentence for burning a Black Lives Matter flag in front of a black church and a weapons offense, said his encounter with Rhodes was a fluke.

“By coincidence,” he told Reuters last June. He was inside… that parking lot. He’s here, I’m not going to not shake someone’s hand.

Tarrio was arrested again in March in his underwear and charged with conspiracy for his role in planning the Jan. 6 riots on Capitol Hill.

Rhodes graduated from Yale Law School and is a military veteran. He lived in Granbury, Texas, after the Capitol riots and has been held in a county jail in Bonham, Texas, since his arrest in January 2022.

On January 26, a federal trial judge in Plano, Texas, ordered him jailed pending trial after his ex-wife, Tasha Adams, shared a photo of the secret tunnels he built in the house. rent from him.
