The leader of the North Carolina chapter of the Oath Keepers militia has pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy and obstructing Electoral College certification in the Jan. 6 riots at the Capitol.
William Todd Wilson, 45, of Newton Grove, a US military veteran, has admitted bringing guns and bulletproof vests to Capitol Hill with the intent of stopping Joe Biden’s certification.
He also told the Justice Department that Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes, 56, had tried to contact former President Donald Trump during the riots to get permission to use force, CBS reported.
In his guilty plea, Wilson wrote: “At approximately 5:00 p.m. m., Wilson, Rhodes and others left the Capitol grounds and walked together to the Phoenix Hotel.

“This individual denied Rhodes’ request to speak directly with President Trump,” the statement continued.

The seditious conspiracy prosecution is the boldest public attempt yet known by the government to prosecute those who attacked the US Capitol.
Both charges carry a 20-year prison sentence, but the men’s sentences are expected to be reduced for their cooperation with the Justice Department.

Rhodes and nine other members of the group have pleaded not guilty and are awaiting trial.
