Who was Connor Lambert?
Connor Lambert, 25, was killed in the New Orleans suburb of Arabi on Tuesday night. He and his pet dog were found dead inside their vandalized home, and Lambert’s cause of death was ruled blunt force trauma.
Neighbors said Lambert, who worked as an engineer at the Stennis Space Center, parked his truck in front of his Arabi home on Benjamin Street and got to his porch just before his house “blew up” with the tornado’s 100 MPH winds. EF3.
His Chevy truck was photographed wrapped around a tree by the force of the same tornado.
Lambert’s body was found inside another ‘blown up’ house. He died of “multiple blunt force injuries,” according to a news release from St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohmann.
Neighbor Cole Baiamonte told KSLA they saw Lambert stop in his driveway before taking cover from the impending tornado; when they left, his house was gone.

Alyssa Wineski, another of Lambert’s neighbors who holed up with her young son in her bathroom, with her husband lying on top of them, said she “didn’t think I was going to get over this.”
“We’re a tight-knit street,” she told CBS News. “We’re screaming for each other, and then when we look over and see Connor’s house, all we can do is scream for him.”
Bob Lambert Sr., Connor’s grandfather, said that ‘everyone who knew [Connor] loved him. He was that kind of person. There are no words to express what we are feeling.’
“Connor was the youngest son of an amazing family with deep roots in our school and community,” St. Bernard Parish Superintendent of Schools Doris Voitier said in a statement.
“We are heartbroken by Connor’s passing and want his family to know how deeply we feel this loss, but how grateful we were to have him in our school family.”
Lambert had been hired at NASA’s Stennis Space Center, where he worked, before graduating from college.

Gov. John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency Wednesday after tornadoes wreaked havoc, overturning cars and displacing entire homes. The community is still recovering from Hurricane Ida last August and Hurricane Katrina 17 years ago.
Neighbors said Lambert, who was a football player and National Merit Scholar at Chalmette High School before studying mechanical engineering at the University of Louisiana’s Lafayette campus, was “always smiling.”
So far, Lambert is the first New Orleans resident to be confirmed dead. Several other people were transported to hospital and local emergency officials say dozens of homes were damaged in St. Bernard Parish alone. Exact numbers will be available once the initial emergency response is complete.
As the storm approached, Louisiana activated 300 National Guardsmen to clear roads and provide support. They joined firefighters and others who were searching door to door to make sure no one was left behind, said John Rahaim Jr., director of homeland security for the parish.
Roughly 8,000 New Orleans residents lost power, Mayor Latoya Cantrell said on Twitter. Other tornadoes generated by the same system caused so much damage in Texas that the governor declared disasters in 16 counties. Buildings were destroyed in Alabama, where torrential rains were recorded.
The multi-day severe weather event is expected to produce more powerful storms as it moves eastward and is expected to hit Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas.
Another Arabi resident described the terrifying moment when he felt his house go full circle, and when he came out, the house was on the street. Standing on the rubble, he frantically screamed for help as his daughter, who was on a ventilator, was trapped inside.
Authorities have since confirmed that the girl was rescued.
Gabriela Rivarde stood in front of the remains of her house in Arabi, which was pushed into her neighbor’s house on Wednesday.
“And the neighbor’s house, I think, went into the other neighbor’s house,” she told CBS News.
