Who was Evgenia Smirnova ?
Thai police believe a Russian model who fell 25 meters from a Phuket apartment may have been pushed after a lock of hair was discovered on her hand.
Webcam artist Evgenia Smirnova, 37, suffered fatal head injuries and a broken leg after a fall from an eighth-floor balcony in one of Patong’s resort complexes.
The Russian woman is known to have operated several social media accounts under different names and regularly live-streamed on an adult site until shortly before her death.
Local authorities are now conducting a forensic analysis of the hair sample Smirnova had on her hand to identify who she may have grabbed as she fell.
Death
Smirnova was originally from Nizhny Novgorod but moved to the Russian capital Moscow as an adult.
She arrived in Phuket on Saturday May 25, while her body was found earlier this week in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
In the wake of the incident in the infamous Patong nightlife area, another Russian woman, Natalia Kosenkova, 35, was arrested along with two men apparently on suspicion of drug use, according to the Bangkok Post.
The detainees were named as the American Jamaal Antwaun Smith, 38, and the Jordanian Ahmad Radi Mustafa Alatoom, 28.
The Jordanian was held after trying to board a flight from Thailand following Smirnova’s death.
Reports citing police said there was evidence of a “s*x, drug and alcohol party” at the Emerald Terrace condominium complex in Patong from which Smirnova fell.
Kosenkova, a model and DJ who also worked as a dental assistant, said today that she had been released and said Smirnova’s death was an “unfortunate incident”, but she did not elaborate.
“The case is not complicated because we are not guilty,” she said, adding that her attorney had ordered her not to discuss the case in detail.
“All I can say is that this was an unfortunate incident, but it was not a murder, and none of the people involved are to blame.”
She said: “They put us in a cage, but they let us go.”
Incident
Kosenkova said that she had only met her fellow Russian Smirnova on the night of the incident.

And she denied Thai media reports that the party involved s*x and drugs, amid claims police had found condom wrappers and cannabis.
I didn’t meet Evgenia until that night.
‘I didn’t know the girl, she just came to the party where we were.
“And she called her friend [Ahmad Radi Mustafa Alatoom], who also came and behaved inappropriately.
‘I can say that my friend and I [Jamaal Antwaun Smith], whom I have known for a long time, behaved with dignity and decency.
The police trust us. The police say they are not worried about us.
She added: ‘I’m just a tourist here… I’m a regular tourist.
“It was a normal booze fest – someone dies here every day.”
Thai reports citing Police Maj. Gen. Sermphan Sirikhon said officers with him are looking at three theories: an unfortunate accident, suicide or murder.
Earlier, Police Lt. Col. Chomphunuch Anantayakun had said: “We think the woman may have accidentally fallen from the balcony while she was looking at the view.”
‘However, it could be a homicide resulting from an argument.
We are in the process of questioning the people involved.
“The hair on the woman’s hand will undergo DNA testing to find out who it belonged to.”
