Who was Ian McDonnell?
A BUSINESSMAN who was found lying on a road with serious injuries after being run over by his own car dies.
Car sales manager Ian McDonnell, 50, was taken ‘to a distance’ on the bonnet of his car after he tried to prevent it from being stolen in Robinhood Road, Clondalkin, Dublin on Sunday 23 January.

Investigation
Gardai at Ballyfermot investigating this incident have set up a team under the leadership of a Senior Investigative Officer.

Officers interviewed witnesses, examined CCTV and conducted door-to-door investigations.
Ian’s car was also found in Limekiln Green, Greenhills, Dublin, on Friday and will be examined by a coroner.
A second car involved in the incident, a silver colored Toyota Aqua, registration number 152 D 32687, was discovered burnt out in Ballinascorney, Tallaght on Tuesday.
The Toyota Aqua was stolen in Crumlin on the day of the incident and is also being examined by Gardai.
A Garda spokesman said: “Inquiries have established that Mr McDonnell had attended his business premises, locally, a short time before.
“While present, he intervened to prevent the theft of his car, a gray Volkswagen Passat, license plate 161 OY 1861.
“In doing so, they took him on the hood of his vehicle, a distance, to where he was discovered.”
The father of three, originally from Roscommon, was rushed to Tallaght University Hospital in serious condition and passed away last night.
An autopsy will be carried out today, with the appointment of a family liaison officer.
