A man fatally shot his young daughter before killing himself in Georgia on Sunday morning after kidnapping her mother’s baby, according to police.

Darian Bennett also shot and killed the baby’s mother and wounded the baby’s grandmother with gunshots at their home in Covington on Saturday night, Sgt. Jack Redlinger of the Newton Sheriff’s Office told CNN. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) identified the baby as Jaquari Bennett. Authorities have not yet identified the baby’s mother or grandmother.

Jaquari Bennett was abducted by Darian Javaris Bennett, 38, the boy’s father, around 11:00 p.m. Saturday night. According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, she was last seen at 95 Chandler Field Drive in Covington.
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office said Darain Javaris Bennett kidnapped Jaquari after shooting and killing the boy’s mother at the home. The boy’s grandmother was also injured.
After fleeing the house, Bennett shot and killed the boy before turning the gun on himself.Anyone with more information is asked to call the Newton County Sheriff’s Office at 706-717-9915.
Who was shot in area?
Covington police received a 911 call shortly before 11:30 p.m. Saturday about an individual who was shot in the area, Redlinger said, and officers found two unidentified minors, ages 11 and 12, once they arrived at the scene.
When officers entered the home, they found the lifeless body of a woman and an older woman with multiple gunshot wounds. The older woman was flown to Atlanta Medical Center by helicopter and is in critical condition, Redlinger said.
The two women who were found in the Covington home were later identified as Jaquari’s mother and grandmother, according to Redlinger.
“Darian Bennett was the one who shot the baby’s mother and took the baby with him and left the scene,” he added.
GBI issued an amber alert on behalf of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office for the missing child.
On Sunday morning, Riverdale police received a call from a man saying he was going to take his own life, Redlinger said.
“Officers were able to trace where the call came from and located a vehicle in a church parking lot and began searching for the man when they heard gunshots coming from the church,” he added.
Officers searched the area of the church gazebo in Riverdale, Redlinger said, and found the man, later identified as Bennett, and Jaquari, both deceased from gunshot wounds.
The GBI also confirmed the deaths of Bennett and Jaquari in a post on its Facebook page.
