Jordan Gatley wiki
Jordan Gatley Biography
Who was Jordan Gatley?
Jordan Gatley, who left the British Army in March and traveled to Ukraine, was described as “a hero” by his father Dean in a tribute on social media.
He was killed in the battle for the eastern city of Severodonetsk, which has seen heavy fighting in recent days.
He is the second Briton to be killed in the conflict following the death of Scott Sibley in April.
Gatley’s father wrote in a Facebook post that his son had been helping to train local forces. He added that his son was shot dead on the front lines while defending the city.
He had gone to Ukraine to help “after careful consideration,” he said.
“She loved his work and we are so proud of him,” Gatley wrote, saying his family learned of his death on Friday. “He really was a hero and he will always be in our hearts.”
Killed
There has been fierce street fighting in Severodonetsk and heavy artillery is said to be causing heavy casualties for both Russian and Ukrainian forces.
The region’s governor, Serhiy Haidai, told Ukrainian television that Russian shelling sparked a huge fire at a chemical plant in the city. As many as 800 civilians are hiding in underground bomb shelters at the plant, according to estimates by Ukrainian officials.
Sibley, whose death made him the first British citizen to be killed in Ukraine since Russia invaded, had been described as a “friend like no other”. A post on the Logistics Support Squadron’s Facebook page described him as a “former serving soldier” of the squadron and said he had “shown Commando spirit to the end.”
The Foreign Office advises against all travel to Ukraine and the Defense Ministry has said that Britons going to join the fighting after the Russian invasion may be committing a crime and could be prosecuted.
In March, the head of the British armed forces said that the British should not go to fight in Ukraine and should find other ways to help.
Second Briton to die in Ukraine since the war began
His son is the second Briton to have been confirmed dead in Ukraine during the war.
Scott Sibley, 36, died in late April and was also a member of the British armed forces.
The city of Severodonetsk has become the main focus of the Russian offensive in recent weeks.
It is one of the last areas in the occupied eastern Lugansk region still under Ukrainian control.
On Sunday, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) published in its latest intelligence update that “Russia is using its superior force and artillery ratio to gradually seize territory in and around Severodonetsk.”
