ICONIC actor Michael Kopsa, who starred in the TV series The X-Files, Smallville and much more, has died at the age of 66.

The mourning family revealed the tragic cause of the Canadian star’s death.

He had an impressive 224 acting credits to his name, from movies to TV to fan-loved voice roles

Kopsa died on October 23 due to “complications from a brain tumor,” his ex-wife, Lucia Frangione, with whom he shared a daughter, Nora, wrote on Instagram and Twitter on Tuesday.

“The great Michael Kopsa, my dear friend and father of my daughter, Nora, passed away on October 23, 2022 from a brain tumor.

He was an incredible stage and screen actor, voice actor, carpenter, musician, and painter.

Most importantly, he was a loving and very present father to our Nora.”

Born in 1956, in Toronto, Canada, Kopsa studied acting in New York City until 1984, then returned to Canada to complete a bachelor’s degree in arts and sciences at the University of Toronto, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He eventually had an impressive 224 acting credits to his name according to IMDB.

He voiced him as the villain Char Aznable from 1979 to 1980 in the first Mobile Suit Gundam anime series, which was a seminal series for many fans of the genre.

In addition to voicing other anime classics, he appeared in the sci-fi television series Stargate SG-1, The X-Files, The Net, and The Outer Limits.

In the fourth and fifth seasons of TV Fringe, he played the series’ regular villain Captain Windmark.

Michael’s film roles then came when he starred in Marvel’s Fantastic Four as Ned Cecil in 2005, Highlander, the horror film Appolo 18 and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, both in 2011.

Whether through his powerful voice or on camera, the actor veered into science fiction, leading to his long career.

He also did English voice dubbing, such as Mobile Suit Gundam, for a large number of video games.

Voice actor and fellow member Peter Kelamis wrote a moving tribute to Facebook:

“I lost a friend today. Many of us did. A friend who was admired and loved.

“I will always treasure the memories of acting class together. It was always great to do scenes in front of those piercing eyes and that booming voice.

“So much talent coupled with such a kind soul. You leave behind many who will miss you. Your fight was long…and you deserve to rest. Until we meet again. With love, your friend.”

Shea Hampton, who also knew Michael in his early days, wrote: “Today the great Michael Kopsa lost his physical battle. My heart goes out to his family for such an amazing loss.”

“Anyone who knew him will remember his tremendous energy, power and incredible talent.

“Many times over the years I got the call ‘Can I come in and do some cold reading? Give me something juicy.’ Then I would show everyone exactly how it should be done!”

He commanded the scenes and left his jaws open in astonishment. He was simply the best, and he knew it!

Mike was a true creative gift and he loved him very much. Until we meet again, safe ride home.”
