Who was Omar Elomar ?
A Sydney teenager was acquitted of the murder of an aspiring lawyer after denying that he knew he came to the scene with a gunman carrying a gun.
Omar Elomar, a relative of dead terrorist Mohamed Elomar, died next to his P-license plate Lexus after being shot in the chest at close range in Miller Park in the southwestern Sydney suburb of Miller on February 15, 2020. .
The 18-year-old had been sitting in a car with his younger cousin while members of the Elomar family and the Isaako family gathered.
Noah Albert, who was related to the Isaako family and arrived at the scene with the gunman, was acquitted of Elomar’s murder in the Supreme Court of New South Wales on Friday.

The Crown had relied entirely on circumstantial evidence to support its claim that Mr. Albert was in a joint criminal venture with the gunman to seriously harm someone.
But Judge Ian Harrison was not satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Albert anticipated the possibility that one of the men would be killed by the weapon.
Mr. Albert had denied that he knew that the gunman had a shotgun at any time prior to the shooting.
“The court ultimately determined that Mr. Albert’s account could not be shown to be false or inherently improbable and therefore possibly true,” said a summary of the court’s decision.
Murder
The murder was the culmination of tensions between the two families during the previous 48 hours.
One teenager from each family had fought on February 14, sparking a fight involving 10 teens behind Casula Mall.

The court said Elomar’s older teens discussed the assault at a family function on February 15, prompting one to exchange insults and aggressive messages with Albert.
Shooting
In the end, they arranged to meet in front of a school in Miller. The Elomars bought a baseball bat and cricket stumps and distributed them to their group.
But within two minutes of arriving, the gunman who had arrived in a car with Mr. Albert approached Omar Elomar and shot him dead.
After the shooting, the defendant allegedly falsely claimed to be the shooter.

And 20 minutes later: ‘I ran into him and shot that boy in the chest.’
The Crown said that if he had not been aware of a weapon, he would have reacted in horror, rather than falsely claiming credit for the act.
Defense attorney Paul Johnson argued that his client had been trying to “defuse the impending confrontation” after the fight, as seen in other text exchanges.
