Last month, and more than five years after the tragedy, Ms Dawson applied to the Brisbane High Court to have the children’s dependency claim resolved.
The claim against Dreamworld’s parent company, Ardent Leisure, was provisionally settled for $300,000 at a meeting in October last year.
Ms Dawson told the court that the proposed payment was reasonable “particularly with a claim involving a novel family arrangement such as ours.”
Ms. Dawson, director of customer service at software company PropertyMe, said the settlement mitigated the costs and risks of taking the case to trial.
Attorney Merridy Gordon, who is representing the children, said in an affidavit filed with the court that Ardent Leisure’s responsibility for the tragedy “is really not in question, given the Coroner’s Court’s damning findings.”
In September 2020, Ardent Leisure was ordered to pay $3.6 million in fines after pleading guilty to security charges for the Thunder River Rapids attraction tragedy.
The Coroner’s Court said there had been a “systemic failure on the part of Dreamworld to ensure all aspects of security” and that the ride posed a “significant risk” to users.
The coronary inquest into the four deaths heard that there was “ample evidence of the potential for a disaster” and the coroner criticized Dreamworld for its “frighteningly unsophisticated” systems.

In her filing last month, Ms. Dawson told the court that Mr. Araghi was a “very involved guy” who spent time with Zachary and was willing to contribute to the costs of the children’s care and education, agreeing to that their children attend a private school.
‘Roozi intended for Nicki and I to raise the children, but that he would support the children anyway. We welcome his involvement,” Ms. Dawson wrote in her affidavit.
Ms Dawson said Mr Araghi wanted the children to attend the International Grammar School in Sydney’s CBD because he supports same-sex relationships.
The trust fund would be split 60 percent and 40 percent among the children, Ms. Dawson added.

Ms. Dawson and Ms. Araghi, an IT executive, have been together for 12 years and live in a $2 million home in Marrickville, Sydney’s inner west.
