French Montana revealed he has been sober for over a year.

The 36-year-old rapper realized he was ‘out of control’ after excessive indulgence in drugs and alcohol mixed with exhaustion landed him in the ICU for two weeks in 2019.

Montana told XXL that the incident forced him to ‘take two steps back’, and also made him realize he had been ‘overdoing something for too long.’

The Unforgettable rapper was rushed to the hospital on November 21, 2019 for cardiac issues – just 11 days after his 35th birthday – as he shared what he believed to be the underlying catalyst.

Saying it was ‘a combination of a lot of things: being fatigued, dehydrated, you know, losing myself chasing money, chasing the wrong things,’ he said he was overworked and also had a predilection for pills.

French confessed he would take Adderall to stay up and Percocets for pain relief which he said became a ‘hobby.’

‘I was runnin’ for like a good 20 years without a break, and God put a stop to that,’ he shared as he said, ‘too much drinking, too many pills, you know, boom.’

Not being able to see the magnitude of his problem at first, Montana, who once dated Khloe Kardashian, revealed:

‘People seen I was out of control, not me, you know what I’m saying? Cause, it’s almost like working out. You don’t see you getting big cause you see yourself every day. It’s the same thing with you being out of control.’

Now drug and alcohol free since his day of hospitalization on November 21, 2019, he now says ‘sober is becoming my new high.’

Feeling accomplished through the hardship of battling sobriety French said: ‘I think that was like the hardest thing I ever did in my life, to snatch myself back.’

‘For me to stop everything and just step back, that was like one of my biggest accomplishments,’ as he said he also detoxed from social media.
