The 28-year-old Canadian singer’s wife Hailey Bieber re-posted the star’s video on her Instagram Story, captioning it with, “I love u baby.” Justin Bieber explains in the video, “It is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis. As you can see, this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on this side of my face. This nostril will not move.”

He also assures everyone in his video, “I’m going to get better,” explaining he’s doing a bunch of facial exercises in order to “get my face back to normal and it will go back to normal.” Bieber adds, “It’s just time. We don’t know how much time it will be but it’s going to be okay. I have hope and I trust God. I trust that this is all for a reason and I’m not sure what that is right now, but in the meantime I’m going to rest.”

Mount Sinai says Ramsay Hunt syndrome is the exact virus that causes shingles and chicken pox. It presents as a rash on the face, ear, or mouth. The syndrome happens when a nerve in the head close to the inner ear is infected by varicella-zoster virus, leading to swelling, and in this case, facial paralysis. Additional symptoms can include intense ear pain, loss of hearing on one side, and vertigo. A medical professional can likely diagnose Ramsay Hunt syndrome by examining a patient for blistery rash or weakness of the face. Mount Sinai continues to explain if there isn’t a ton of damage done to the nerve, a patient should improve and fully recover in just a few weeks.

We all send much love to Justin Bieber. Get the rest you need to feel better!
