Keacy Carty Facts
- A teenage cricket prodigy, Keacy made his debut for the under-19 side of Leeward Islands in 2013, aged just 16.
- In December 2015, he was included in the West Indies squad for the 2016 Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup. He played in all 6 of the West Indies’ matches in the tournament which made him the first Sint Maartener to represent the West Indies in a cricket match at any level.
- In the final of the tournament, against hot favorites India, he walked in to bat at number 4 with the score reading 28/2 in the 8th over. Although the target set by India (146 runs from 50 overs) was rather modest, the Indian bowlers began suffocating the West Indian batters as they stuttered to a score of 77/5 in 29 overs.
- Keacy then, in partnership with Keemo Paul, began to resurrect his team’s innings and the duo hung on together until the final over of the match to see their side home. Although their unbeaten partnership of 69 runs took nearly 21 overs, the pair ensured that they held firm in the chase and did not expose their tail-end batters to the Indian bowlers.
- Keacy ended up with a score of 52 runs not out from 125 balls as the West Indies won by 5 wickets. For his rather measured and mature performance, he was named the ‘Player of the Final’. Upon his return to Sint Maarten, he was received by both the country’s prime minister, William Marlin, and the governor, Eugene Holiday.
- Just a few days later, in February 2016, he made his senior debut for the Leeward Islands, in a game against Trinidad and Tobago, in the 2015–16 edition of the Regional Four Day Competition (the premier first-class cricket competition in the West Indies). In the 2nd innings of that match, he recorded his maiden first-class half-century (59 runs from 115 balls).
- In February 2021, in the 2020–21 edition of the Super50 Cup (the premier one-day cricket competition in the West Indies), he scored his first century in List A cricket – an unbeaten knock of 123 runs.
- When he made his ODI (and international) debut in May 2022, he became the first man born in Sint Maarten to play for the West Indies senior national team.
