Oppenheimer may have won the most awards at last night’s Oscars, but the real big winner of the night appears to have been Ozempic.

Speculation was rife online about who may have taken the drug as celebrity after celebrity walked the red carpet looking noticeably leaner.

Dr Gary Motykie, a plastic surgeon-to-the-stars in Los Angeles, told DailyMail.com the crowd appeared to be more ‘slimmed-down’ than in previous years.

The use of weight-loss drugs in Hollywood has become so rife that Eli Lilly – the maker of Ozempic’s rival drug Mounjaro – released an advert this month asking people to stop using the drug for vanity.

Below are the celebrities who may have taken the drug:

Jesse Plemons

Jesse Plemons looked unrecognizable on the red carpet with wife Kirsten Dunst last night.

Shocked people on social media said he ‘lookedgreat’ and were ‘asking is the rest of him?’ after seeing the stunning transformation.

The 35-year-old revealed he started trying to lose weight in 2022 after deciding he was ‘tired of carrying all that extra weight around’.

Dr Motykie said he felt Plemons shift in his waistline was likely down to the work he had been putting in to change his lifestyle.

Plemons has spoken about using intermittent fasting, cutting down on carbohydrates and avoiding ‘terrible’ foods.

Dr Motykie said: ‘I really do think this is down to his lifestyle,’ he said, ‘the reason is he is very vocal about his lifestyle changes.

‘And then, secondly, for a pretty consistent period over a long period of time — not just a month or two — he has been losing weight.

‘So it looks to me like he has committed to those lifestyle changes and you can really see it in his body. He has some tone on him, so he is likely putting in the hard work in the gym rather than using semaglutide.’

America Ferrera

And again in 2024

Another celebrity who has lost weight over the years is Ugly Betty star America Ferrara.

The 39-year-old has described her body as being ‘average-sized’ for years, and even said she ‘unapologetically’ loves her figure.

She has attributed recent shifts in her waistline to her diet and work out regimen — saying she works out almost every day and has dance parties at home with her children.

But Dr Motykie said that the lack of toning on her body — suggesting a build-up of muscle mass — meant she may be on the drugs.

‘We don’t see that same muscle mass and toning with her [as other celebrities],’ he said, ‘just fat loss’.

‘This makes me suspicious for the possible use of semaglutide or other weight loss drugs.’

She told People in 2022: ‘I love my body, I try [to work out] once a day.

‘I think my relationship to moving my body and working out has really evolved, and I’m in a place where I just want to enjoy it.

‘I want to have fun, I want to move because I can, because it feels good, and because it always makes my day better after I’ve done that.’

The mother-of-three has not previously spoken about using weight loss drugs.

Brendan Fraser

Brendan Fraser is pictured above in 2021 and at the Oscars last night. He has lost weight after his role in The Whale where he played a 600lb man

Rumors swirled online that Brendan Fraser may have used Ozempic to help himself lose weight.

One user wrote on X, ‘Brendan Fraser must be on that Ozempic’, while a second said, ‘Ozempic’s made you look great Brendan.’

The 54-year-old — who has struggled with his weight — looked much leaner than in 2021 shortly before his role as a 600lb character Charlie in award-winning film ‘The Whale’.

Dr Motykie said that while he believes Fraser may have used Ozempic, he also may have come off the drug befor the Oscars.

He said: ‘There are several pictures of him [from before the Oscars] where he looks a lot more gaunt, a little bit like an “Ozempic face” [— where the skin is loose],’ he said.

‘But we do see here in this Oscar’s picture that he is maybe having a little bit of a rebound and getting a bit of volume back.’

He added: ‘I haven’t seen any information on him talking about his work out, diet, lifestyle changes — that is why I am a little suspicious.’

He was around 300lbs when The Whale was filmed in 2021 — with a fat suit used to add another 300lbs to his frame.

The actor was pictured at premieres of the film in 2023, however, with a much more slimmed down figure.

Fraser struggled from depression in the 2000s and 2010s and also injuries that saw him have surgery on his spine, knee and vocal cords in 2013. The actor was moreover divorced from his ex-wife Afton Smith in 2009, adding to his woes.

Fraser says he is aiming to become more ‘comfortable’ in his frame than in previous years — such as when he was in George of the Jungle or The Mummy.

He told People last year: ‘I mean, I’m older now: I don’t look the way I did in those days, and I don’t necessarily want to.

‘But I’ve made peace with who I am now. And I’m glad that the work I can do is based in an emotional reality that’s not my own life but is one that I can strongly identify with.’

Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt (Shown above at the Oscars in 2023 and this year) was the picture of elegence in her figure-hugging gowns. Some fans suggested that she may have been on Ozempic

She is always looks great — but some viewers pointed out that Emily Blunt appeared to be even slighter than usual.

One fan commented on X: ‘Did Ozempic get Emily Blunt too?’

Dr Motykie, however, said that she had significant muscle mass, which hinted that she had not used the drug.

He said: ‘I think she looks great.

‘She maintains the same body frame, has the same tone to her and muscle mass — and so I think semaglutide is unlikely.’

Studies have shown that about 60 percent of the weight people lose while on Ozempic is muscle, unless they are ensuring they keep exercising and eat a high protein diet.

Blunt has rarely spoken about her weight — but revealed previously that she had lost weight for her role in the Devil Wears Prada (2006).

‘I’ve only lost weight for the Devil Wears Prada and that was because my character was supposed to be on the edge of anorexia,’ she said.

‘I am from a family of thin children, so I have always been ok with that.’

Lupita Nyong’o

And at the Oscars last night

Lupita Nyong’o is pictured above at a premiere in Mexico in 2022 and at the Oscars last night. Some fans noted her slimmer figure

Another celebrity that some fans suggested had got caught in the Ozempic spotlight was 12 Years a Slave actress Lupita Nyong’o.

The star, 41, looked sensational in a glittering feathered gown as she attended the awards ceremony in Hollywood, California, last night.

But a number did comment on her shifting frame, with one saying online, ‘Is Lupita on Ozempic?’ and a second adding, ‘I hope auntie Lupita is not on that Ozempic’.

Dr Motykie, however, said her muscle mass made it less likely that she was using Ozempic or a similar weight loss drug.

Pointing to the fact that her figure appeared more toned, he said: ‘When you look at her, she is toned, she is fit, she has got muscle mass.

‘Those things suggest to me that she is working out and putting the work in and is not just “skinny fat”.

‘When people take Ozempic they are not gaining muscle they are actually losing muscle mass — meaning they don’t have the fitness look you see with Lupita.’

Lupita has not recently opened up about any weight loss — and previous ruled out gaining up to 100lbs for a movie role.

She split from her long-time partner Selema Masekela in October last year.

Melissa McCarthy

Melissa McCarthy is pictured above in 2022 and again in 2024. Fans commented how she appeared to have a much slimmer figure

Fans have also been pointing to Melissa McCarthy’s shifting waistline as a sign the star may be using Ozempic.

The Bridesmaids star, 53, has previously said she expects her weight to surge up and down for the rest of her life.

Dr Motykie said he felt her shifts were also likely down to lifestyle and diet changes rather than weight loss drugs.

She previously dropped 70lbs after going on an all-liquid diet for four months ahead of her role in Gilmore Girls.

She then shed around 75lbs in 2016, attributing the shift at the time to ‘no trick, nothing to tell, just super boring life’.

She told EXTRA: ‘You bring it real down, you don’t do anything fun, and you go to bed at 7:30 — that’s the trick.’

More recently, however, she says she has been following a more laid-back approach to her figure.

‘I finally said [to myself], “Oh, for God’s sakes, stop worrying about it” — and it may be the best thing I’ve ever done,’ she said on CBS.

‘I truly stopped worrying about my weight. I stopped over-analyzing, over-thinking, over-doing anything… I just stopped contantly being worried about it.

‘I think there’s something to kinda loosening up and not being so nervous and rigid about it that, bizarrely, has worked.’

She has not previoulsy mentioned using weight loss drugs.

Catherine O’Hara

And at the Oscars this year

Comedian and actress Catherine O’Hara turned heads at the Oscars in 2022 and 2024 with her fashionable looks

Suggestions also emerged last night that Home Alone star Catherine O’Hara may also have used Ozempic.

O’Hara has never mentioned using weight loss drugs and previously said she is actually aiming to avoid having work done as she gets older.

The 70-year-old told the Hollywood Reporter in 2022: ‘I’m a freak in that I’ve never had anything done to my face.

‘I don’t want to get surgery and I don’t want to get needles, other than acupuncture needles.

‘I believe we should embrace and respect age and love ourselves for it.’

But this did not stop speculation emerging online that she had used weight loss drugs, with a fan posting her name on a Thread about celebrities on Ozempic.

Dr Motykie said it was unlikely she was using the drug, however, saying her frame still appeared to be toned.

There are concerns over prescribing the drugs to older adults because they can prompt a drop in muscle mass, which may raise the risk of someone suffering from falls and fractures.

But semaglutide is approved for use in adults over the age of 65 years.
