Daryl Mitchell comes from a family that holds great admiration for sports. The New Zealand cricketer was born to John Mitchell, the former Kiwi player and coach.

And due to John’s work, the family had to constantly move from one country to another. The rugby coach didn’t limit himself to only his home country, New Zealand, and trained players in the US, South Africa, England, and Australia.

The all-rounder was raised alongside his sister Ciara Mitchell, and the two had to see their parents getting divorced early on.

“I made the hardest decision of my life to say I was going to part with three people I loved. The hardest thing was that I was going to hurt three people, which I did,” said John to the Guardian about his divorce.

Only a few are as lucky as Daryl, whose even grandparents can see their success. On his Instagram handle, Daryl has posted photos holding his trophies alongside his grandparents, who seem to enjoy watching Daryl play from the stands rather than from their TV set.

A supportive bunch, Daryl’s family couldn’t be less proud of their son and his achievements in a short time. Having a famous father can be a boon but also a curse.

From being known as the son of John Mitchell to building an identity of his own, Daryl’s journey has been nothing but eventful.
