The How I Met Your Father and Lizzie McGuire star recently posted a slideshow of her Women’s Health shoot on Instagram to share with her 21.1M followers. What is she wearing? A perfectly confident smile, earrings, and more than a few cool tattoos. (The star has a minimum of 23 small tattoos, and each one of them has its own unique meaning.)
Duff captioned the Instagram post with, “Sooooo, this was scary….. I knew doing this would terrify me and I was right! @womenshealthmag had the most lovely all-women shoot and I actually had the best time. I felt strong and beautiful and laughed a lot getting into some of these poses without my high waisted mom jeans and oversized whatever I normally wear. Thank you to everyone who normalized this day for me and propped me up with compliments and love …” The actress also reveals she felt “both completely vulnerable but powerful” while posing for these beautiful shots.
The post received such support, including 2M+ likes and over 31K comments, including, “Um. Wow! This is so liberating and beautiful! We seriously admire you so much,” “QUEEN OF ALL MOTHERS! (Heart on fire emoji) WTFFF BODY GOALS,” and, “EVERYTHING about this—YES YES YES.”

Duff reveals to Women’s Health, “I’m proud of my body. I’m proud that it’s produced three children for me. I’ve gotten to a place of being peaceful with the changes my body has gone through.”
The star offers some inspiration for all of us, saying we work our butts off “to get our bodies in shape and to look the best we can.” She continues, “We get facials and Botox and our hair done and highlights and brows and lash lifts … But I want to work on the inside. That’s the most important part of the system.”

With a busy acting career and three children, we all want to know how the star makes looking this good appear so natural and easy. As you can imagine, it was hard work to get ready for a shoot of this nature. Duff spent four days each week working out. Her sessions with trainer Dominic Leeder included weight lifting, strength training, and stability exercises. A training day could consist of weighted squats and working with a Bosu ball. Another day could focus on single-leg bent-over dumbbell rows and lat pulldowns. Duff also did cardio blasts for 30 seconds, in addition to rolling, stretching, and Theragun massages.
When she had a little break from her workouts, Duff played tennis or went on a hike. She tells Women’s Health, “I slept better, I felt better,” and she truly enjoyed the various programs she did with Leeder.

As for her self-care time, Duff will slip into her PJs when her kids are off to bed, noting, “I want to be in soft rags, basically.” The ultimate night consists of snuggling up in bed by 7:30 with her husband Matthew Koma, enjoying some sushi, and streaming their favorite TV shows. Duff may get some crocheting in, too, or do some reading.
