Sigourney Weaver has done it all. She’s starred in movies for decades, as well as television shows, Broadway performances, and has even narrated plenty of animated pieces, documentaries, and video games.  And at 72 years old, Sigourney Weaver is anticipating the release of the new Avatar movie and looking better than ever. Which leaves many of her fans wondering how she does it.

Weaver has been known to play extremely powerful, strong female roles in her films, and she told Stellar magazine in 2020 that her secrets to feeling strong in her own life at 72 are building stamina while being in the show business, and following a vegan diet.

Weaver hasn’t revealed much about her vegan diet to the press, but she’s made it clear that it’s an important value to her and her family. When Stellar Magazine asked if she was still Vegan, Weaver replied, “We try. Jim Cameron [who is her director in the Avatar films] is also a vegan, so we have vegan caterers on the Avatar films. My husband, daughter and I really try very hard to be at least vegetarian.”

The Longevity benefits of a plant-based diet

It comes as no surprise that many people are switching over to a more plant-based diet these days, including many famous celebrities like Natalie Portman, Lizzo, and Sigourney Weaver. In fact, more research is being done to confirm that there are plenty of healthy aging benefits to eating this way.

One recent review published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition concluded that following a plant-based vegan diet can help reduce your risk of death from cardiometabolic diseases, while also reducing your risk of things like type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

When it comes to your skin, a plant-based diet may have its aging benefits as well. A 2020 study published in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology found that eating a whole food vegan diet can help reduce cellular damage related to skin aging as well as help provide things like vitamin A, C, and E, all of which are crucial for healthy aging skin.

And lastly, if you look to the world’s oldest living people, you’ll see that many of them follow a largely plant-based diet. In fact, the world’s Blue Zones, which contain the longest living populations, usually eat meat on special occasions only.
